TOPIC 1: THE CYBER SAVVY EDUCATOR

In this session, educators will walk away with an understanding of the latest digital trends for young people today and reflect on their role as an educator in the 21st Century. The Cyber Safety Project Team will share fundamental strategies for teaching six key cyber safety concepts and provide educators with resources to level up their cyber safety teaching.

Educators will explore:

• Social networking and popular online platforms for young people
• Digital habits and how young people are using technology today
• The fundamentals of integrating cyber safety themes into the classroom
• Proactive teaching strategies to build positive digital reputations.

TOPIC 2: DIGITAL WELLBEING

In this session, educators will be reminded of the imperative to integrate digital safety and wellbeing concepts into their daily classroom practice. With a focus on Digital Wellbeing, the Cyber Safety Project Team will highlight fundamental social and emotional skills that can support students to self-manage their own digital safety and wellbeing. Educators will engage in an open forum style discussion to drive conversations about key challenges they face.

Educators will explore:

• Trending social networking and gaming tools for young people
• Digital dilemmas through the lens of a social media user and gamer
• The fundamentals of integrating digital wellbeing themes into the classroom
• Lesson ideas and activities targeted at F-12 learners.

TOPIC 3: DIGITAL RESPECT & CONSENT

In this session, educators will gain an understanding as to why embedding proactive digital respect and consent education is essential for all schools. As the online world becomes more ubiquitous, it is vital that we educate young people about digital citizenship protocols and personal responsibilities.  Educators will explore the reporting of both image-based abuse (IBA) and online harassment as they learn to support young people in understanding their role in society both offline and online.

Educators will explore:

• What is image-based abuse and the harms associated with this online behaviour?
• How might we proactively address these complex concepts with younger children?
• Where can we gain additional support to manage critical incidences?
• What are our duties as educators/school staff in reporting?

Leading Safe Digital Schools

STRATEGIC WORKSHOP

Leading a school community in a world where technology trends rapidly emerge and shift can feel like a game of catch up. Effective digital leadership today requires a proactive approach, particularly when it comes to cyber security and the digital wellbeing of our school community.

Knowledge is power, and over two strategic workshops, school leaders will gain insights into trending digital habits and the challenges young people face. Leaders will be encouraged to reflect on the systems, processes and programs currently embedded within their eco-system and uncover the three fundamental principles of leading a safe digital school. Leaders will walk away with proactive tools to review current approaches and influence the digital safety and wellbeing of their whole community.

School leaders will:

• Evaluate their school’s achievement using the Leading Safe Digital School Maturity Matrix
• Set goals for continual improvement of systems, processes and proactive education
• Level up their school’s cyber security, safety and wellbeing policies and procedures
• Charter a pathway to lead a shift to create a safe digital school.
